Happy Graduation Celebration!

Whatever the meaning of graduation, the celebration can come in many forms. In Indonesia, we celebrate it in kebaya and suit tie, but things are clearly different in other countries. In fact, you might be surprised when you read some of these graduation traditions!

Japan celebrates graduation in March with many activities lined up while wearing their school uniforms. In the Philippines, students are also required to wear a uniform under their graduation robes. As a token of appreciation, they will be draped with a garland around their neck when they come off the stage. Formal cultures like this are very similar to the traditions of British universities.

On the other hand, some other countries view graduation as an opportunity to embarrass graduates. Fresh graduates in Argentina will be pelted with soy sauce, syrup and sticky food. Basically, they will be pelted with anything that can stick to the body. In Sweden, schoolchildren will wear captain's hats and sing and walk out of school. Outside of school, their families have gathered with embarrassing childhood photos of the graduates for public display. In Italy, graduates must prepare to be publicly humiliated by their peers.

Fresh graduates will be forced into costumes while their friends line up to throw food and liquids at them! Some other countries do things a little more traditional. Members of the Thai royal family will hand out graduation certificates to their graduates to show appreciation for pursuing education to the highest level. Russian women don't wear graduation gowns because tradition requires them to wear black dresses with an apron.

How about our country? Compared to other countries, it seems we have quite a relaxed tradition. With all the differences that exist, giving flowers is a tradition that certainly means a lot to anyone. It may be simple, but it has a deep meaning of appreciation. In this graduation season, we have prepared a 'Song of Congratulation' for your loved ones. This bouquet is a mix of hydrangeas, white roses and fresh eryngium with a cute little teddy bear on top. You can also write a private message for the flower recipient!
